Thanks

Thanks to everyone for reading my blog, I hope you have enjoyed it. I’ve also appreciated the phone calls, messages and visits I have received along the way.

Thanks also to the various bike shops and mechanics that helped me along the way, particularly Peter Moore at Abbotsford Cycles.

Lastly I would like to thank my family – Isabelle, Connor and particularly Jill – firstly for allowing me to undertake my adventure and secondly for doing so in such an enthusiastic way. Their encouragement, practical assistance and visits kept me going through the tough times and made the experience all the more enjoyable.

The Last Day

Day Two Hundred And Three     Geelong to Yarraville                    85k

I was pretty well packed so it didn’t take long to get organised; the wild card was the weather – rain was imminent. I was pretty tired – partly because I didn’t sleep too well and partly due to accumulated fatigue. Started off by going around Corio Bay which was very interesting especially compared to the freeway, from there I was chased by rain into Lara where I sat out some heavy showers for over an hour.

Back on the road I headed for Little River where I took the option of using the freeway for the section to Werribee. From there I headed through Point Cook to Sanctuary Lakes where I was briefly lost but luckily I wasn’t far from where I was supposed to be and before long I was in familiar territory on the bike track leading to Williamstown.

I was about 10 minutes behind schedule when I arrived at Willy High School where I had arranged to meet my daughter Isabelle who was going to ride the last few k’s with me. It was great to see Biz and we both enjoyed sharing the last leg of the trip.

It was with mixed feelings I turned the last corner and headed up Sussex St to my house however the welcome given to me by my extended family was fantastic including a thorough spray of champagne from Connor. After bursting through a banner my last official duty was to declare Sycling Steve’s Tour Round Oz successfully completed.
